Learn how to make tender and flavorful chitterlings (chitlins) with this easy recipe, perfect for beginners!”

Ingredients:

  • 5 pounds chitterlings (pre-cleaned)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hot sauce (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the chitterlings: Even if they are pre-cleaned, give the chitterlings a good rinse in cold water. Make sure they’re as clean as possible!

Boil it up: In a large pot, add the rinsed chitterlings and enough water to cover them completely. Add the chopped onion, garlic, vinegar, bay leaves, salt, and pepper.

Cook them: Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 4-5 hours. Stir occasionally and make sure there’s always enough water to keep the chitterlings covered.

Taste and adjust: Once they’re tender, taste the chitterlings and add more salt, pepper, or even a dash of hot sauce if you like it spicy.

Serve: Drain the chitterlings and serve them with your favorite side dishes. Add hot sauce for an extra kick!
