Classic French Meat Pie – Easy Comfort Food Recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (acts as a binder)
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions:
- Cook the meat: In a large pan, cook the ground beef, ground pork, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat.
Season it up: Add cinnamon, cloves, thyme, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture. Stir everything together and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in the mashed potatoes to help bind everything.
Prep the crust: Roll out one pie crust and place it into a pie dish. Pour the meat mixture into the crust and spread it evenly.
Top it off: Place the second pie crust over the top. Pinch the edges together to seal the pie and cut a few small slits in the top to let steam escape. Brush the top with a little beaten egg for a golden crust.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Slice and serve: Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with ketchup or gravy if you like!
